Lennard Maloney Breaks Bundesliga Distance Covered Record
Record-Breaking Performance
In a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, Mainz’s Lennard Maloney etched his name in the Bundesliga history books by covering the most distance in a single game. The 1. FSV Mainz 05 midfielder, who can also play in central defense, ran an astonishing 14.77 kilometers (9.18 miles) during the match.
Distance Covered: A New Benchmark
Maloney’s remarkable achievement surpasses the previous record held by Vladimír Darida, a longtime Hertha Berlin and Czechia star. Darida, who still boasts the next three best measures, was the previous holder of the record. Manuel Prietl, a former Arminia Bielefeld midfielder, completes the top five.
A Valuable Point for Mainz
Mainz’s draw against the champions was a significant result, especially considering they were just three minutes away from securing their first win in Munich since December 2016. Lee Jae-sung and Kacper Potulski canceled out Lennart Karl’s opener, but a late Harry Kane penalty spared Bayern’s blushes.
About Lennard Maloney
Maloney, who joined Mainz from Heidenheim last summer, is a versatile player who can also play in central defense. The Berlin-born midfielder has won two caps for the USA in 2023 under Gregg Berhalter and is an outside bet to make Mauricio Pochettino’s FIFA World Cup 2026 squad.
