Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala Takes Significant Step Towards Return to Action

Bayern Munich’s playmaker Jamal Musiala has made a major breakthrough in his recovery from a severe injury sustained during the FIFA Club World Cup in July. The 22-year-old England international has returned to team training with his club, marking a significant step towards his return to competitive football.

Details

Musiala suffered a broken left leg and ankle dislocation in Bayern’s Club World Cup quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the setback, he has been diligently working on his strength training and physical conditioning at Bayern’s Säbener Straße training base since November 17. His return to team training on December 16 has put him on track to make a comeback early in 2026, potentially before the end of the year.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany has been cautious in setting a return date for Musiala, stating, “When will he come back? The plan was January, but we’ll see. These long-term injuries can sometimes heal a little faster, but sometimes they take longer. That’s why I want to give him the necessary rest for his return.”
Musiala’s absence has not hindered Bayern’s progress, with the club enjoying a near-flawless campaign in the 2025/26 season. They have put together a European record run of 16 straight wins to start the season and are sitting nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
Musiala’s return will be a significant boost for both Bayern and the German national team, who are eyeing a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico, and the USA. The newly expanded 48-team competition takes place from June 11 to July 19.
