Pep ‘Weighs In’ on City Fitness Over Holiday Break

Manchester City’s Manager Issues a Stern Warning to His Players

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has sent a clear message to his players ahead of the Christmas break. Following their 3-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League, Guardiola revealed that he has been monitoring his players’ weight and has warned them that overindulging during the break could result in them being dropped from the squad for the next game against Nottingham Forest.
According to Guardiola, each of his players was weighed on Friday, and they will be re-weighed when they return to training on Christmas Day. The manager made it clear that he will be keeping a close eye on the results before selecting a squad to face Nottingham Forest on December 27.
“I have to make a selection against Nottingham Forest,” Guardiola said. “Imagine one player who was perfect, but he will arrive with three kilos more. He will stay in Manchester. He will not travel to Nottingham Forest.”
Guardiola’s decision to monitor his players’ weight is not just about their physical fitness, but also about their mental preparation for the next game. With City sitting second in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Arsenal, the pressure is on to maintain their title challenge.
Despite the comfortable win over West Ham, Guardiola was not entirely pleased with his team’s performance. “Parts of the performance were not good,” he admitted. In response, he cancelled a planned day off on Sunday and instead reduced the players’ break to three days.
“The players asked me to take a day off [on Sunday], I said, no, because you didn’t play good enough,” Guardiola explained. “We will have recovery, train the guys that didn’t play, and after three days off, you have two days to prepare for Nottingham Forest.”
The City boss will be spending his Christmas break in Barcelona, but he will be keeping a close eye on his players’ progress. With a tight schedule ahead, Guardiola is determined to keep his team focused and prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
