USMNT Star Weston McKennie Reflects on Juventus Future Amid Contract Uncertainty
Details
USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie has reached a milestone in his Juventus career, playing his 200th game for the Italian giants. As his current contract with Juventus approaches its expiration date at the end of the 2025-26 season, McKennie has spoken about his future with the club.
McKennie joined Juventus from Schalke 04 on loan in 2020 before making a permanent move in 2021. He has since become a cornerstone of the team, re-establishing himself as a regular starter under the guidance of head coach Luciano Spalletti. The midfielder has been instrumental in Juventus’ recent resurgence, with the team winning six of its last seven matches across all competitions.
In an interview with reporters at an event hosted by his charity, McKennie’s Magical Youth Mission, he expressed his desire to continue playing for Juventus. “I hope to stay at Juventus. But I leave everything in my agent’s hands,” he stated, clarifying his intention to continue not only in Europe but specifically in Turin.
McKennie’s 200th appearance with Juventus was commemorated with a special jersey during the team’s match against AS Roma last Saturday. The midfielder reflected on the milestone, saying, “It was a huge moment for me, for my family, and for the people in America. For everyone, but especially for me: I’m very happy to have reached this milestone. It’s difficult to be here and make 200 appearances, but I did it, and hopefully there will be another hundred.”
The USMNT star also praised Spalletti’s influence on the team, stating, “It was a difficult time before, but now we’ve rediscovered our identity. The coach, who is a great coach, knows how to play football and how to train players. I really like him, and we hope to finish the year strong against Pisa by taking another three points.”
