Kobbie Mainoo Faces Uncertain Future at Manchester United

Former Premier League Midfielder Slams Mainoo’s Performance

‘s Kobbie Mainoo has been left in the shadows this season, and it seems his chances of a World Cup call-up are dwindling. The 20-year-old England international has struggled to make an impact under Ruben Amorim, leading to speculation that he might need to leave Old Trafford in January.
According to former Premier League midfielder Dan Gosling, Mainoo simply hasn’t done enough to warrant a starting spot this season. Gosling, speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show, emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication for Mainoo to prove himself at the top level.
“He should stay and fight for his place,” Gosling said. “You’re at Manchester United. It’s too easy for players to leave United right now. Everyone wants to leave to better-run clubs. No, you’re at Manchester United. Do a job.”
Gosling’s comments come after Mainoo played a little over 200 minutes in the Premier League this season, with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town. Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system seems to favor other midfielders, leaving Mainoo on the fringes.
Despite Gosling’s advice to Mainoo to stay and fight for his place, the young midfielder has been linked with an exit, with Napoli among the clubs interested in his services. However, Manchester United are unlikely to sanction an early January move, especially with three players involved in the Africa Cup of Nations set to return to club duty soon.
Mainoo’s absence from the team has been due to injury, with Amorim confirming that he picked up a calf problem in training. The manager’s focus remains on the players available, and he is optimistic that Mainoo will be back to full fitness soon.
