Man City to Weigh Players Before Forest Game

Manchester City

manager Pep Guardiola has announced that his players will undergo weight checks when they return to training ahead of their match against Nottingham Forest on December 27.
The decision comes after City’s 3-0 win over West Ham on Saturday, their last match before Christmas. Guardiola has a reputation for being strict when it comes to player fitness levels, and has previously taken action against players who failed to meet his weight targets.
In 2016, Guardiola exiled some of his squad from first-team training until they met certain weight targets. He has also been known to advise his players on their diet, telling them to avoid certain foods such as pizza and heavy juices.
Guardiola’s comments come as City face a busy festive period, with a match against Forest before an away fixture at Sunderland on New Year’s Day. The team are currently two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, who beat Everton 1-0 on Saturday.
Despite his concerns about his players’ weight, Guardiola has praised their fitness levels and running ability. However, he believes they need to improve their performance on the pitch.
“The players asked me to have tomorrow’s training session off and I said no, because they didn’t play well enough,” Guardiola said. “So Sunday recovery, train the guys that didn’t play, and after three days off they have two days to prepare for Nottingham Forest.”
Guardiola also emphasized the importance of giving his players time off during the Christmas period, allowing them to spend time with their families.
“I’ve learned from England, since I arrived, as much days [where you can] have a day off, you give them,” he added. “The schedule is so tight and the players have to forget. The moment of the game they will be fresh in the legs.”
