Roy Keane Lashes Out at Manchester United Star After Aston Villa Defeat

Details

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance against Aston Villa, singling out Diogo Dalot for not doing enough on the pitch. The Red Devils fell to a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park, with Morgan Rogers scoring a brace and Matheus Cunha netting the other goal.
Keane, who is now a Sky Sports pundit, was critical of Dalot’s effort, stating that he needs to “roll his sleeves up” and do more for the team. He also questioned whether Dalot and other players recognized the danger posed by Rogers in the build-up to the first goal.
The defeat marks the second loss in eight Premier League matches for Ruben Amorim’s side, and the team is now facing additional challenges with the injury to talisman Bruno Fernandes, who is set to miss games over the festive period.

Keane’s Verdict

Keane’s comments on Dalot’s performance were stark: “You can have all the talent in the world, but you’ve got to roll your sleeves up and when the game gets a bit tight, there’s moments where you go, ‘I’m just going to do my bit for the team’. There’s too many players, like Dalot, that just don’t do enough.”
He also expressed concern about the team’s ability to recognize and respond to danger, saying: “Same for the first goal when Rogers gets the ball wide. We’re all sitting there and we know there’s danger. Do they not know there’s danger?”

Dalot’s Response

Dalot acknowledged that the absence of several key players, including Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Noussair Mazraoui, who are away for AFCON, has created opportunities for others to step up. He emphasized the importance of players seizing these chances and showing they deserve more playing time.
