Chelsea Dominates Liverpool in Women’s League Cup, Manchester City and Arsenal Also Advance
Chelsea’s women’s team made a statement in the Women’s League Cup, thrashing Liverpool 9-1 to secure a spot in the semi-finals. The holders will face Manchester City away in the next round, after City defeated West Ham 5-1.
Chelsea’s Resounding Victory
The match saw Chelsea’s Sam Kerr score the opening two goals, followed by a hat-trick from Johanna Rytting Kaneryd. Wieke Kaptein added two more goals, while Sjoeke Nusken and Millie Bright also found the back of the net. Liverpool‘s Jenna Clark managed to score a consolation goal, but it was not enough to prevent Chelsea’s dominant display.
Manchester City and Arsenal Advance
Manchester City secured their place in the semi-finals with a 5-1 win over West Ham. Kerolin and Lauren Hemp gave City an early 2-0 lead, before Riko Ueki’s strike briefly gave West Ham hope. However, City responded with goals from Grace Clinton, Khadija Shaw, and Laura Coombs.
Arsenal also advanced to the semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. Laia Codina’s looping header gave Arsenal the lead after 20 minutes, and Stina Blackstenius sealed the win in second-half stoppage time.
Manchester United Completes Semi-Final Lineup
Manchester United secured their spot in the semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Tottenham. Drew Spence opened the scoring for Spurs, but Jess Park and Fridolina Rolfo’s second-half goals gave United the win.
Semi-Final Matchups Announced
The semi-final matchups have been announced, with Chelsea facing Manchester City away and Arsenal hosting Manchester United. The semi-finals will be played on January 21 and 22.
