Frustrated Wilshere Slams Luton for ‘Cheap Goals’

Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere expressed his frustration after a 3-2 defeat at Reading, which saw the Hatters’ four-match unbeaten league run come to an end. The hosts, who were struggling to find their footing in the League One table, took an early lead with goals from Lewis Wing and Jack Marriott, both of which were conceded by Luton in what Wilshere described as “cheap” fashion.
Despite dominating the game and creating numerous scoring opportunities, Luton found themselves trailing by two goals at the break. However, they managed to level the score through Jordan Clark and Nigel Lonwijk, only to be denied a comeback victory by Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan’s 78th-minute winner for Reading.
Wilshere’s post-match comments highlighted the team’s struggles with conceding avoidable goals, which he believes can be the difference-maker in close matches. “It’s frustrating because, when you play like that and dominate the game, and when you ask the players to do something and they execute it almost perfectly, it’s the same old thing,” he said. “We just keep conceding cheap goals. We have to start to understand that those can be the moments that really matter.”
The defeat leaves Luton in a precarious position, while Reading’s win has lifted them up to 14th in the table, just outside the relegation zone on goal difference. Royals manager Leam Richardson praised his team’s response to a negative setback, but expressed disappointment at the manner in which the game was won.
