Spain World Cup Champion Rejects David Beckham’s Offer to Join Inter Miami

Before the Messi Era, Inter Miami’s Ambition Was Clear

In a fascinating revelation, former Manchester City midfielder David Silva has shared that he was approached by Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham in 2020 with an offer to join the MLS club. However, Silva declined the proposal, opting to prioritize his personal life and competitive ambitions.
According to Silva, who spoke on the El Camino de Mario podcast, Beckham personally met with him in Manchester to discuss the opportunity. At the time, Silva was preparing to leave Manchester City as a free agent, presenting Inter Miami with a prime chance to add another global star.

A Missed Opportunity for Inter Miami

The near-arrival of Silva would have been a significant coup for Inter Miami, which was still in its early stages of development. The club has since become one of the most recognizable teams in MLS, thanks in part to the arrival of Lionel Messi in 2023.
Beckham’s pursuit of Silva was part of a broader effort to elevate the club’s profile and attract top talent. Despite the setback, Beckham has continued to pursue star signings throughout the club’s history, leveraging his relationships within the global soccer community.

A Different Path for Silva

Silva ultimately chose to return to Spain, joining Real Sociedad in August 2020. He played three more seasons with the club before retiring in 2023 due to an ACL injury. The 34-year-old midfielder closed out a distinguished career that included major honors in both Spain and England.
