Man Utd Disagree with Bruno Fernandes as Red Devils Skipper Drops Exit Bombshell

Manchester United

‘s hierarchy has strongly refuted claims made by captain Bruno Fernandes that the club wanted him to leave in the summer. Fernandes, who has been a key player for the Red Devils, made the shocking revelation during an interview with Canal 11, the subscription television channel of the Portuguese Football Federation.

Background

In the summer, Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal tabled a massive financial package to entice Fernandes away from Old Trafford. However, no official discussions took place with Manchester United, and Fernandes ultimately turned down their advances. In October, Fernandes revealed that the manager and the club made it clear they wanted him to remain at the club.

Fernandes’ Latest Claims

However, Fernandes has now appeared to contradict those comments, stating that the club wanted him to go. He revealed that he felt the club’s hierarchy was ambivalent about his future, saying: “The club wanted me to go, I have that in my head. I told the directors this, but I think they didn’t have the courage to make that decision. I decided to stay.”
Fernandes also cited family reasons and his affection for the club as factors in his decision to stay. He praised the manager for his support, saying: “The manager spoke with me. He said I was still part of the project. He wanted me to stay. The club said the same.”

United Insiders Respond

Manchester Evening News reports that United insiders have emphasized that the hierarchy made it abundantly clear throughout the summer that Fernandes remained integral to their future vision. They have strongly refuted Fernandes’ claims, stating that the club never wanted him to leave.

Contract Situation

Fernandes’ contract with Manchester United is set to run out in 2027, but there is the possibility of a 12-month extension. The club will be keen to resolve Fernandes’ future in the coming months to avoid any potential distractions.
