Massara: Roma Satisfied with Ferguson, Premature to Discuss Zirkzee
Details
AS Roma’s Director of Football, Ricky Massara, has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of Evan Ferguson, who has been on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. Despite speculation surrounding Ferguson’s future at the club, Massara insists it is too early to discuss his potential transfer.
Ferguson has been in impressive form, scoring two goals in Roma’s 3-0 Europa League victory over Celtic in Glasgow. This has led to speculation that Roma may trigger the €38m buyout clause in his loan deal. However, Massara is keen to downplay such talk, stating that it is “premature” to discuss Ferguson’s future.
“We are happy that Evan is doing well, he is getting back to the levels that we knew,” Massara told Sky Sport Italia. “He was stalled by a few fitness issues, so he needs consistency, he did very well on Thursday and we hope he’ll repeat that performance this evening.”
Massara also addressed rumors that Roma were considering sending Ferguson back to Brighton midway through the loan spell in January. He insisted that such speculation was unfounded and that the club is focused on the current games.
In addition to discussing Ferguson’s future, Massara was also asked about Roma’s interest in Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee. Massara downplayed rumors of a potential transfer, stating that it is “premature” to discuss the January transfer market.
“We have three games yet to play, so it’s premature to talk about the January transfer market too,” Massara said. “The trips to Britain were for the important games against Rangers and Celtic.”
Massara’s comments come ahead of Roma’s crucial Serie A match against Como, which kicks off at 19.45 GMT at the Stadio Olimpico. A win for Roma would see them close the gap on the leading group, while a loss would allow Cesc Fabregas’ Cagliari to catch them in joint fourth place.
