Kevin Diks: A True Believer in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Magic

Borussia Mönchengladbach has been blessed with a treasure trove of talented players, and one of them is Kevin Diks, the Indonesian defender who has seamlessly slotted into the team. In an exclusive interview with the Bundesliga, Diks opened up about his journey to the club, his first impressions, and what makes him tick.

Adjusting to Life in Mönchengladbach

Since joining the club in the summer, Diks has been a virtual ever-present, and he credits the team’s unity and the fans’ unwavering support for his quick adaptation. “I think it has been really good so far. I was integrated into the team quite well. I think, of course, the results were tough in the beginning, but after that, I think we regrouped. We have done really well so far, and I think so far it has been good,” he said.

The Decision to Join Mönchengladbach

So, what made Diks choose Borussia Mönchengladbach over other clubs? The answer lies in a combination of factors, including the club’s rich history, the fans’ passion, and the proximity to his family in the Netherlands. “There were many, many, many factors that made me join. The club is historical; it’s an amazing club with amazing fans. Even this season, you saw that in the beginning it was a bit tough, but afterwards they were still supporting us and getting us through the mud. That was also very important,” he explained.

Family Ties and Team Spirit

Diks’ family has been a significant factor in his decision to join Mönchengladbach. His wife’s family lives close by, and his daughter gets to see a lot of her relatives, which is a bonus for the family. “Every match I have some people coming, my wife’s family mostly. They are living a little closer. For my daughter, it is amazing that she can see so much family at the moment. I think she sees family every week and that is good for my daughter and for my wife, too,” he said.

Go-To Guys in the Dressing Room

When it comes to his teammates, Diks has formed close bonds with several players, including Rocco Reitz, Luca Netz, and Oscar Fraulo. “I am mostly a guy who can get along with a lot of people in the team, because I like to be good with everybody, but of course, I sit next to Rocco [Reitz] and Luca [Netz], so we speak a lot. Also, Oscar Fraulo, he’s Danish and I have been to Denmark before, so we have some funny jokes always about Midtjylland and Copenhagen,” he revealed.

Upcoming Matches and Team Spirit

As the team prepares to face Wolfsburg at home and then Borussia Dortmund just before the winter break, Diks is looking forward to the challenges ahead. “First, we have a big match on Saturday, first I will look into that. There are a lot of familiar faces that I will know: Kamil [Grabara], Denis [Vavro], PC – [managing director] Peter Christiansen – who I know really well from Copenhagen. And Jonas is unfortunately injured, Jonas Wind. I will see a lot of familiar faces, so I am looking forward to them, but we play at home another big match, so hopefully another good result,” he said.
