Liverpool’s Striker Alexander Isak Faces Indefinite Absence After Surgery

Details

Liverpool’s British-record $170 million signing, Alexander Isak, has been ruled out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on Monday to repair a broken ankle and fibula. The 26-year-old striker suffered the injury during the Premier League match against Tottenham on Saturday, where he scored the opening goal before limping off the field.

Impact on Liverpool’s Campaign

Isak’s absence will not only affect Liverpool‘s chances in the Premier League but also potentially impact Sweden’s World Cup qualification bid. Sweden is set to face Ukraine in the European playoffs in March. Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, is already dealing with the absence of Mohamed Salah, who is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations. The team will rely on Hugo Ekitike, who has been in impressive form, scoring 11 goals for the club so far.

Rehabilitation and Return Date

According to a statement from Liverpool, Isak’s rehabilitation will continue at the AXA Training Centre, but a timeframe for his return has not been set. The club will closely monitor his progress to determine when he can return to the pitch.

Troubled Season for Isak

This injury marks the latest setback for Isak, who has had a challenging season. He joined Liverpool in September after a protracted move from Newcastle, missing out on a full preseason. He was gradually eased into the team but suffered a groin injury that kept him out for another month. Despite making just 10 starts for the Premier League champion, Isak has scored three goals.

Liverpool’s Recent Form

Despite the setbacks, Liverpool has been on a six-game unbeaten streak, with back-to-back wins against Brighton and Tottenham propelling them up the standings. They are now fifth in the league, level on points with Chelsea in fourth.
