Wilson Talks Deadline Day Leeds Drama, Goalscoring Form – and Contract Talks
Fulham winger Harry Wilson has been on fire this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in his last four Premier League games. But it could have been a very different story for Wilson, had a last-minute move to Leeds United on Deadline Day gone through.
Deadline Day Drama
Wilson was on international duty with Wales when the Deadline Day drama unfolded. “It was the first time it had happened to me,” Wilson recalled from Fulham’s training ground. “I’m used to watching it on Sky Sports, so to be part of it was different. My phone was going off every two minutes. It was going to happen, then it wasn’t going to happen. Then it was back on, then it was off.”
Consistency and Rhythm
Wilson’s consistent performance in the team has been a key factor behind his goalscoring run. “I wouldn’t say I’m doing anything different,” Wilson said. “I think regular minutes and a rhythm really helps me. When I’m in and out of the team, you can see it disrupts the rhythm, but I feel like I’m getting a really good run in the team.”
Contract Talks
With his current contract set to expire in six months, Wilson is focused on playing well and getting the minutes he needs to be in the best shape for the World Cup. “I’m fully focused on playing,” Wilson said. “I play football because I love the game and wherever I am, it’s got to be somewhere where I’m going to play.”
Influences and Inspiration
Wilson has spoken about the influence of his former team-mate Mohamed Salah, who he played with during pre-season campaigns at Liverpool. “Just seeing how he is, how he looks after himself off the pitch, how hungry he is for goals and assists over the last eight or nine years,” Wilson said. “His numbers have been incredible. And to do that year-on-year as a winger as well, they are striker numbers when predominantly he plays out wide.”
