Messi’s Inter Miami Set to Pay Nearly $5 Million for Argentine Midfielder

Details

As the 2025 Major League Soccer season comes to a close, Inter Miami is making significant strides in shaping their roster for the 2026 season. However, one key issue remains unresolved: the Argentine midfielder Baltasar Rodriguez, who joined the club earlier this year at the direct request of head coach Javier Mascherano.
According to a report by DSports Radio, Inter Miami is in negotiations with Racing Club to purchase Rodriguez, who was initially signed on a loan deal with a mandatory purchase option triggered by specific performance targets. Unfortunately, injuries during the first half of the year prevented Rodriguez from meeting those benchmarks, leading to contractual consequences.

The Purchase Option

The original agreement between Inter Miami and Racing Club included a purchase option worth nearly $5 million, which was tied to Rodriguez’s performance. However, since the player did not meet the required minutes threshold, the loan spell is set to expire at the end of the year, and Rodriguez would have been expected to return to Racing Club.

Inter Miami’s Transfer Moves

In the midst of negotiations with Rodriguez’s current club, Inter Miami has been busy with their transfer moves. Several players from the 2025 MLS title-winning roster have departed, including Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who have both decided to retire. Additionally, players whose contracts have expired will not be renewed, including Marcelo Weigandt, Fafa Picault, and Ryan Sailor.
On the other hand, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ian Fray, and Noah Allen have recently signed contract extensions, securing their spots for the 2026 season under Javier Mascherano. Rodrigo De Paul will also be permanently acquired in a multimillion-dollar transfer from Atletico Madrid. New additions to the team include left back Sergio Reguilon, defenders Abdel Talabi and Alex Barger, midfielder Kenan Hot, and forwards Mamadi Jiana and Maximilian Kissel.
