Manchester United Target Criticised for ‘Disrespectful’ Behaviour

Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi has been at the centre of controversy after his emotional reaction to being substituted off the field during his team’s 2-0 Bundesliga win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday night.

Details

Adeyemi, who has been linked with a £70million move to Manchester United, was replaced by Dortmund manager Niko Kovac on the hour-mark. The 23-year-old winger did not take kindly to being substituted and stormed off the field, heading towards the locker room. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl was seen catching Adeyemi by the arm to prevent him from leaving, and the pair exchanged words.

Criticism from World Cup Winner

World Cup

winner Sami Khedira has labelled Adeyemi’s actions as ‘disrespectful’ to his Dortmund team-mates and Kovac. Khedira stated that Adeyemi’s reaction was not good and that going into the locker room early is somewhat disrespectful to the coach and team-mates.

Condemnation from Sky’s Dietmar Hamann

Sky’s Dietmar Hamann also condemned Adeyemi’s actions, saying that he didn’t play well during the game and that he couldn’t understand why he didn’t watch the last half hour of the game.

Consequences for Adeyemi

Adeyemi now faces being fined by Dortmund, with Kehl unimpressed by his antics. Kehl stated that the substitution was partly justified and that Adeyemi didn’t have a good game.

Speculation About Adeyemi’s Future

The fallout of Friday’s game adds to speculation about Adeyemi’s future at the club. He is under contract at Dortmund until 2027, but is attracting interest from many of Europe’s top clubs, including Manchester United.
