Liverpool Fear Significant Lower Leg Injury for Isak

Swedish Striker Forced Off in Victory Over Tottenham

Liverpool are bracing themselves for a potentially lengthy injury layoff for Alexander Isak, who suffered a significant lower leg injury during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham. The 26-year-old striker, who joined the Reds from Newcastle in a record-breaking £125m deal in September, was forced off the pitch after being challenged by Micky van de Ven just moments after scoring the opening goal.
Isak underwent MRI scans on Sunday to determine the full extent of the damage, with the results set to provide a clearer picture of his expected recovery time. Liverpool boss Arne Slot is due to speak at a news conference on Tuesday, where he may provide further insight into the situation.
The injury is a significant blow to Liverpool, who are already without Mohamed Salah, who is representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Cody Gakpo, who is currently sidelined with an injury. Fellow forward Hugo Ekitike, who scored in the win over Tottenham, is expected to continue leading the line for the Reds.
Isak has struggled to find his footing since arriving at Anfield, scoring just two Premier League goals in 10 appearances. The Swedish striker was left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a minor thigh injury and later trained alone at his former club Real Sociedad before joining Liverpool on deadline day.
Without a proper pre-season, Isak arrived at Anfield short of match fitness and has started just 10 times in all competitions. The injury is a major concern for the Reds, who will be hoping that Isak’s recovery is not as prolonged as initially feared.
