Arsenal News: Mikel Arteta Puts Pressure on Viktor Gyokeres
Pressure Mounts on Gyokeres
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his expectations from striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has struggled to make an impact since joining the club. Despite going five games without a goal, Arteta believes that Gyokeres has shown positive signs of improvement and needs to continue developing his understanding with his teammates.
In an interview ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Everton, Arteta stated, “I think so. I think the level of attention on him hasn’t changed since he signed until today. It’s normal. Everyone was excited to bring a [number] nine to the club, we did it and we brought a player with an incredible goalscoring record who has to adapt to the league.”
Gyokeres, who has scored six times for Arsenal since his summer arrival from Sporting CP, has been under scrutiny for his performances. However, Arteta remains optimistic about the Swedish striker’s potential and believes that he will go to another level in the second half of the season.
Jesus’ Transfer Plan
Meanwhile, Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has outlined his plans to return to his boyhood club, Palmeiras, one day. The Brazilian has looked sharp since returning to action from a long-term knee injury and has an important role to play for the Gunners over the next few seasons.
In an interview with The Players’ Tribune, Jesus said, “One day, I would love for everything to come full circle with Palmeiras, but not today. I feel that I have unfinished business at Arsenal. I don’t want to leave. When I came here to join Mikel [Arteta], my purpose was not only to score goals. My purpose was to win titles.”
