Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal Get Strong Defence from Club Legend Amid Rival ‘Agenda’

Gunners Legend Nigel Winterburn Weighs In on Recent Criticism

Arsenal’s impressive start to the season has been met with criticism in recent weeks, but club legend Nigel Winterburn has come to the defense of Mikel Arteta’s side. The Gunners currently sit top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
As Arsenal prepares to face Everton in the top-flight this weekend, followed by a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Crystal Palace, Winterburn has hit back at the recent criticism. The north Londoners’ last Premier League victory came against Wolves, courtesy of two own goals.
“People are focused on Arsenal a little bit, and their set-plays, particularly at the start of the season,” Winterburn said in an interview with OLBG. “Then there were a few murmurings the other night about own goals winning games. There seems to be a little bit of an agenda about Arsenal at the moment, and everyone’s picking every single game apart.”
Winterburn emphasized the importance of being good at set-plays, as they can be a “cheap” goal, but also a crucial aspect of a team’s overall performance. He also outlined why Arsenal should target the quadruple this season, despite the obvious challenge.
“When they win the first trophy, and of course, you want the Premier League or the Champions League, but just picking up one of those cups for me is the start, it’s a journey that you start to go on and hopefully you progress,” Winterburn added.
