Milan Still Pursuing Zirkzee Amid Interest in Fullkrug
Details
AC Milan’s pursuit of a new striker in the January transfer window has taken an interesting turn. Despite reportedly having a clear path to sign Niclas Fullkrug from West Ham, the Italian giants are still keen on Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee.
Fullkrug’s Availability
Fullkrug, a 32-year-old German international, is expected to be made available for a straight loan deal until the end of the season. His wages are not a concern for Milan, but his injury record and lack of goals during his West Ham spell raise some doubts. The striker has not scored since April 5 and has had several spells on the treatment table, including an achilles issue, a thigh injury, and a muscular injury.
Zirkzee’s Attraction
Despite these concerns, Milan have reportedly kept their interest in Zirkzee, a former Bologna forward who is open to leaving Old Trafford. However, negotiations with Manchester United are expected to be complex, with the Red Devils seeking a loan deal with an obligation to buy for a fee in the region of €35m.
Competition for Zirkzee’s Signature
Milan are not the only interested party in Zirkzee’s signature, with Roma also following the Dutchman. The Rossoneri will need to navigate these complex negotiations to secure the striker’s services.
Milan’s Attacking Department
Milan’s pursuit of a new striker is driven by the need to strengthen their attacking department. With Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao, and Christopher Nkunku all playing up front at various stages this season, the injury to Santiago Gimenez has left the team without a natural, senior centre-forward.
