Fernandes Reveals Manchester United’s True Intentions

Details

Manchester United

captain Bruno Fernandes has made a shocking revelation, stating that the club’s management wanted him to leave in the summer when Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal proposed a massive offer. The Portugal international, who has a contract until 2027 with an option for an additional year, rejected the move to stay at Old Trafford.

The Offer That Could Have Changed Everything

Al-Hilal reportedly offered Fernandes a fee of around £100m and wages of up to £700,000 a week, more than doubling his current salary. Despite the enticing offer, Fernandes chose to stay at United, citing family reasons and his love for the club. In a recent interview with Canal 11, a channel owned by the Portuguese Football Federation, Fernandes expressed his hurt and sadness over the club’s stance.

A Player’s Perspective

Fernandes, who has made 307 appearances for United, scoring 103 goals and providing 93 assists, said: “From the club I felt it was, ‘If you go it’s not so bad for us’. It hurts me a bit.” He also stated that he could have left in the transfer window, earning more money and winning trophies, but chose to stay for family reasons and his genuine love for the club.

United’s Stance

Sources close to the club have told BBC Sport that Manchester United have no desire to sell Fernandes or for him to leave, and he continues to be central to the club’s long-term planning. United boss Ruben Amorim had reportedly urged Fernandes to stay at Old Trafford, but the club’s management allegedly wanted him to leave.

A Player’s Loyalty

Fernandes joined United in January 2020 for £47m from Portuguese side Sporting and has been a key player for the club, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League this season. His loyalty to the club is evident, and his decision to stay despite the enticing offer is a testament to his commitment to Manchester United.
