Father of Bayern Munich Star Flies to England for Transfer Talks
Bayern Munich’s highly-rated 16-year-old centre-back Cassiano Kiala is at the centre of a transfer storm, with Chelsea and Manchester City engaging in talks with the player’s father in London.
Details
Cassiano Kiala, a Germany U17 international, has already been an unused substitute for Bayern Munich on seven occasions this season and has been a regular in first-team training since the end of the 2024-25 campaign. The versatile defender can also operate as a defensive midfielder and was part of Bayern’s travelling squad for last summer’s Club World Cup in the United States.
The player’s father flew to London on Friday evening from Germany for a whistle-stop visit to England, where he met with both Chelsea and City for private discussions before returning to Munich on Saturday. City are said to be strongly interested in Kiala, but Brexit regulations mean Premier League clubs are prohibited from signing foreign talent until they have reached the age of 18.
Transfer Talks Centre Around Building a Relationship for the Future
It’s understood that the talks between Chelsea, Manchester City, and the Kiala family are centred around building a relationship for the future, rather than an immediate transfer. Kiala does not turn 18 until January 11, 2027, and his current contract with Bayern is due to run until June of the same year.
Bayern have huge confidence in Kiala’s ability to become a first-team regular under Vincent Kompany and are keen to keep him at the club. The Bundesliga champions have a notable recent push within the club to integrate more homegrown talent, with the aim of creating more stars and role models like Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala.
Bayern’s Confidence in Kiala’s Ability
Bayern defender Jonathan Tah has praised Kiala’s ability, saying: “He absolutely has the quality to help Bayern this season. He’s fast, good with the ball, and brave. He’s a top-class centre-back.” Kiala’s technical quality and ball-playing ability have made him a highly-rated prospect, and English clubs are eager to secure his services.
