Arne Slot Sends Message to Salah After Liverpool Victory

Liverpool’s narrow win over Inter Milan at the San Siro has sparked a fresh controversy surrounding Mohamed Salah’s recent remarks. The Egyptian forward was left out of the travelling squad for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash, and now, head coach Arne Slot has seemingly challenged Salah to reflect on his comments before peace talks can begin.
In a press conference following the match, Slot was asked about the ongoing rift between the club and Salah. The Dutch manager’s response seemed to imply that the forward might need to take responsibility for his actions before any resolution can be reached.
“You say everyone makes mistakes in life. So the first thing should be whether the player thinks he’s made a mistake as well?” Slot said, leaving little room for interpretation.
When asked whether he would meet with Salah ahead of the upcoming match against Brighton, Slot’s response was equally telling. “I haven’t said that I’m not going to talk to him. And then the next question is, should the initiative come from me or from him? That’s another question to answer.”
Slot clarified that he wasn’t suggesting Salah must make the first move to return to the team, but the clock is ticking. Saturday’s match is Liverpool’s final fixture before Salah departs for the Africa Cup of Nations, where he will represent Egypt until at least mid-January.
Meanwhile, Salah’s Liverpool teammates have offered a different perspective on the matter. Reds captain Virgil van Dijk admitted that Salah’s absence had created added tension but insisted the team remained focused amid the drama.
“It’s a collective difficult situation that we’re all in, between Mo and the club, things are going on, and he’s not here today, that’s the reality,” Van Dijk said. “I’m not the one to say whether someone has to apologize. It’s [Salah] airing his feelings over the past couple of days. That’s something the club has to deal with.”
Andrew Robertson echoed Van Dijk’s sentiments, expressing his hope that Salah would remain part of the squad beyond the current standoff.
“It’s a tough situation. We’re talking about one of the greatest players to play for this club. I signed in the same window as him, Whatever has happened, happened. Internally, we’re all together. That’ll be up to other people. It’s not up to me. I love playing with Mo Salah and I hope to continue playing with him,” Robertson said.
